I would check out a company that goes by teh name of Jags that Run or
JTR they sell a book that tells you the how and what about V8 swaps in
S trucks....

most V8 conversions are expensive and time consuming and ned up leaving you with an overheating truck.

it shouldnt be too hard just make sure it fits in
the engine bay or plan on spending a lot of money
on customization

i ahd a 93 s-10 4.3 ltr and everybody was always telling me to swap it out for a 350. if you were to do the whole conversion why go only 305, the cost will be almost the same for a 350. IMO dont do any mods to an 85` engine that is only 2.8, save your money for better projects

v8s10.com and s10forum.com Those two websites right there are filled with tons and tons of information on how to do these popular swaps.

All the parts are out there. The motor mounts, radiators, headers, wiring harnesses, etc. Just got to search around.

If you have a little money go for a 383 stroker. But I knew a guy who had a 350 hp 2.8 liter engine.

OK first of all it doesn't matter what size of engine you put in that 85 as long as its a smallblock. 305, 350, 383, or even a 400 smally. The bay is big enough for ANY size of smallblock. There is a company out there that has all the parts you need. I cant remember off hand who they are but they are out there. I will say this though. If you like doing engine work and you want a 383 this is what you could do. Find an 80's model chevy half ton with a 400 smallblock. Tear it down and put a 350 crank in it, then replace the rocker arms with some roller rockers. Thats all a 383 stroker is. Do any performance mods you want to the rest of the motor. Preferably a cam, intake, carb, valve springs, and possible even pistons. If do decide to go through all the trouble go ahead and replace the oil pump, main bearings, rod bearings, cam bearings, piston rings, head gaskets, and valve seals. That way you wont have to worry about anything going out on you after its all said and done. This will save you alot of time and hassal of pulling you engine later. Yea it sounds like alot of money, but if you want horsepower and you want torque this is the way to go. Hope this helped.
