'01 Silverado 5.3L: 3 Different Problems have arisen.
Bought this truck used last year with 115,000 miles, now I have approx. 127,000. This is my primary work truck, it carries all my tools and ladders(I'm a painter), so I cant afford any downtime with it. I stay on top of the maintainece and am quite **** about it. Anyways, I have had no serious problems with this truck, did a basic tune-up when I got it, plugs wires, K-n Filter, full synthetic fluids all around, tranny serviced, the whole shebang! I don't cheap out, I buy the good parts and fluids. O, now that I have gotten the completely useless info out of the way, on to the problems!
Starting yesterday, it started having trouble starting. it started out by having to crank it along time, now I have to shut it off and start it again and it fires right up. I keep the throttle body clean, fuel injection cleaner on a monthly basis, new K-N Filter. The previous Knuckle head owner, relaced the fuel pump twice in his ownership of it. Unfortunetly, he was lazy and just cut a hole in the bed instead of dropping the tank as your supposed to. So, i have no idea of any othe shoddy work that was done in the tank, but it has been perfect for the past year and a half. This coincides with the 2nd problem. ever since I got the truck, it has been a pain in the *** to fill up. you have to fill it really really slow or it shuts the pump off. It drives me insane to stand there for 20 minutes to fill a half tank. Yes, I never let the gas get below a half tank for that reason and I dodn't want to burn up what I am assuming is a junkyard fuel pump or cheap chinese autozone pump either. No mattter how I postion the nozzle up down sideways, all the way in , just a little bit in, twisting and turning every which way! Like I said, it drives me nuts and I hate spilling gas all over fron it back spalshing out of the tank. 3rd problem. I haven't changed a U joint on a car since my 72 cutlass needed them 10 years ago. Is it still the same way, either with a vise and sockets or a hammer and sockets? let me know if I need a special tools? Thanks and thanks for reading this entirely too long tome of my ramblings, you have the patience of a saint!

First off, check fuel pressure and fire to the spark plugs. Not sure about the gas tank but it sounds like the hose is kinked inside the bed. Your U Joints are easy. Just get a torch to heat up the base caps. You will see little holes where they squirted some nylon in there to keep the caps on. After some heat, they will squirt out. After that, the caps pop right off and reinstall new ones with C clips.
