Default '05 1500 rear drum brake wear indicators

So I have a rear brake chirping, so I pull off the wheel and the drum to take a look. The shoes look 2/3 worn to me but this is my first look at Chevy shoes in 20 years. There seems to be no real wear indicator on the shoes, usually when you get down to the rivets, it's time to change. No rivets here. What I did notice is the shoe material is tapered at the ends, down toward the metal. I should have taken a picture. If the material is say; 12" long, because it tapers to the ends, it is only wearing on about 10 1/2" of shoe material. As it wears away the shoe, the wear area continues to increase in length until as the shoes are nearly completely worn, they are bearing on the full length of the shoe material. Is this the wear indicator? When the shoe is wearing on it's full length, is it time to replace. If this is so, I still have plently of shoe left. If no one can decipher what I'm trying to describe, I will repost with pictures next time I take a wheel off.

Regards,

Randy, Las Vegas

Default RE: '05 1500 rear drum brake wear indicators

Please look at my post a few days ago about the TSB / STB of the Parking Brake pad staying in contact at all times. GM will fix this; if you dlrshp gives you bs, call the GM complaint line and they will send you to a dlrshp in your area and they will call them to authorize the fix; your dlrshp will tell you;
1.) Your ridding the brakes
2.) It's normal wear symtomatic of all trucks as the rear is lighter
3.) FO

It will cost you $300+ to fix if you don't fight, not to mention they will never tell you what the real problem is unless you ask them using the TSB/STB # to repair the problem. I believe this has affected 900k people so far
