Default 2001 Silverado Takes 2 to 3 turns to start??????HELP

I have a 2001 Silverado 5.3 When I go to start it it will most often take about two to three turn overs to get it started. but if I turn the key to the run position just befor starting and back to the off position 3 times and let my fuel pump do some pumping then it will start right up. Anyone had a similare problem? Fuel pump issue? Clogged fuel filter? Starter problem? My buddy had the same problem and when he took it in to be checked out by chevy they could not come up with an answer. Any suggestions or expierence with same problem would be great.

Thanks

how many miles do you have on it? how loud is the fuel pump...its located at the end of your bed in the gas tank. after you start it youll hear a humm/wind. its probably been getting louder and probably needs to be replaced its really easy and fairly inexpensive. just drop the tank after you used all the gas. make it easy on yourself

I'm going to say fuel filter. letting the pump run a few gtimes, you maybe just flushing the lines clean of what possibly settles when you're not driving. Unless you're at 100K, or run it out of fuel a few times, the pump should be good. I say change the fuel filter, and maybe put some Lucas fuel treatment in when you do it.

I figured fuel Filter clogged but Does not hesitate while driving. 106K on it fuel pump isnt any louder than when it had 50K and ran great. Sometimes it will go through a fase when it will start great. Im gonna do the filter and see how it does. Just thought ide drop a line to see if any one had the same issue and found exactly what the prob was.
THANKS

I had a 2000 Silverado with the same problem around 45K miles. Ended up being a fuel pressure sensor...had it replaced and started fine all the way to 93K miles...then it was totalled in an accident w/cement truck.
