'93 Engine swap question

'93 Engine swap question
Hay all! New guy here with some questions about my '93 Chevy Regular Cab, 4x4, heavy(8-lug) 3/4 ton, rolley windows, cruise, air, 5spd, 5.7ltr.
She was a farm truck that wasn't driven much or tore up. But that little 350 is bugging me. It's fine when it's not got a load on her but when I set my little 8ft slide in camper in her bed then she's a bit on the weeny side.
I'd like to swap out the engine for a new crate 454 or even that cool 502. Since I don't have an automatic tranny, which I understand is the hardest part of an engine swap in the 88-98 chevy's since the tranny's run by the computer, can I just swap any 'ol motor in there with say a carb or fuel injection(with it's own FI computer, of course)? Can I pull out or leave unhooked the computer that now controls the TBI?
Just spitballin here and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's thought of this with an amazing 188hp from the factory to live with in a HD pickup.
Thanks for any and all help! I'm planning this for a springtime project. Take care, Walt

I had a 92 camaro and did away with the computer TBI stuff. I just dropped the tank, took the fuel pump out, put a hose and strainer in its place, added a Holley 14 psi external fuel pump with a toggle switch, 650 carb, and away she drove!! I just took out the TBI, left the computer in there. All my gauges still worked fine. When you take the pump out, just the pump, leave the rest of the harness in there so your gauge still reads how much fuel you have in your tank.
