Default Engine Swap

I Have a 1994 Chevy Silverado with a zz4 crate engine in it. I just crashed and totaled the truck. I then bought a 1999 Chevy Silverado with a v8 vortec engine in it. My Question is can I put the zz4 engine in the 1999 Silverado? If so How can it be done? I have been told to change engine transmission and computer from the 94 and it will run but my gauges will not work. Can anybody please help me? <edited><editID>RacerX</editID><editDate>38101.0109953704</editDate></edited>

My advice would be to sell the zz4 engine and use that money to purchase a supercharger to slap on that v8 vortec, those are good engines, and supercharged can deliver good performance. I know that is probabley not the answer you were looking for but it is just a suggestion <img border="0" src=smileys/smiley16.gif border="0">

What engine do you have in the new truck. I agree with selling the ZZ4 and use the money to get some performance parts for the new truck. The Vortec engines are good, strong engines and there are plenty of aftermarket parts for them. Good luck.

well if you were going to swap another engine in this new truck I'd get the 8100 Vortec or a Mildly wild 406SBC and sell the ZZ4...</P>

But then again i'm not a 350 chevy fan.</P>

so i'd use any engine but the 350 or 305...</P>

But if you go with a 406SBC be sure to fuel inject it don't carb it like some.....nevermind..</P>

I love old truck's but i tend to hate carb's so i either use a totale manual carb such as mech secondaries and manual choke or I just get a Holley comander950 Digitial TBI unit for them..or even the holley950's MPI unit.. i tend to aviod tuned port in jection looks cool but is very restrictive and unstable..</P>

Okay I have decided to sell the zz4 and build a vortec for my 99
silveradeo. The engine that is in it is a 4.8. should i build this one
or get a 5.3 and build it. or should I get a 5.7 and build it but if I
go with the 5.7 will I run into computer problems. Please help me.

all the 4.8 5.3 5.7 6.0 gen III engines are all ls1 based engines. all compatible but heads on 4.8/5.3 have smaller cc chambers than the 5.7 /6.0 but if you want to build and eng. i suggest the 402 its a 6.0l with a 4" stroke here is a web site to check it out http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?PARTNUMBER=12400</P>

you can use your heads and intake and all that other crap. and my i suggest not wasting your time putting on the ls1 intake manifold to your 4.8 waste of time try going to ls1tech.com lot better info there.</P>

and as for the computer thats the easiest part try hp tuners or ls1 edit your computer can run any of the gen III motors with a little tuning from one of these programers. these are not like the stupid plugin handheld crap that people buy these can change anything in your computer that makes your truck run http://hptuners.com/

I can get you an already built (from the factory) 4.8, 5.3 (FF or non-FF) and 6.0 (HO or non-HO)
for much cheaper then you'll build one for. (the 6.0 HO will cost a bit more though)
They include wiring harness + comp., starter, alternator, a/c comp., fan and air intake
assembly, water pump, headers and 4L60E or 4L80E transmission.

PM me and we can talk more.
