i just bought a 95 silverado Z71 w 187,000 miles the truck will not reverse and has a had time coming out of first gear, i have to take it over 3k or close to 4k rpms for it to shift, im not sure but i wanna say its going from 1st to 3rd bc i can run 60mph in gear..not sure if it related but the heat will not blow but ac blows cold he said the truck overheats at times..i dropped the transmission pan to take a look and found metal shavings and shards-picture attached, im thinking im gonna have to drop the transmission but would like any input or thoughts on what i should do since moneys tight..i started to drop the transmission and stopped bc i wanna see what yall think, ive only removed the drive shafts and exhaust so im not far into it yet..thanks for reading any help is greatly appreciated!

 

If you lost reverse there is good chance that 4th doesn't work either. Common failure on the 4L60E is the reaction drum strips out. There are heavier aftermarket drums out there but you have to totally dis-assemble the trans to make the repairs. So I'd be prepared for complete overhaul.

The drum stipped out on our '99 Blazer at 140K a couple years back. Since I'm my own warranty dept I decide to replace only the drum and affected seals and not the clutches since I could still read the part numbers. 3yrs later and now has 170K+ and still working fine.

The other issues should not be related to the trans.
