Default RE: ABS LIGHT

One of two things causes this. Ether a blow ABS pump fuse, or a blown ABS pump. The pumps on the early trucks used an inferior transistor that burns out long before it should. The action you are seeing is classic. I had a brake shop replace mine with a tested used unit; cost me $155.00 parts and labor. You can pull the fuse and see if it responds the same way only the light stays out. If it does, you got a bad ABS pump.

If you don’t mind bleeding all those lines, it simple to change out. Located right under the drivers seat, inside the frame rail.

But if a shop puts one in and it fails you can always go back and get them to replace it, or if it completely fails, and you loose all braking, then you may be able to hold them responsible.

Check the ABS fuse, if its good pull it and start the truck, see if the light goes out and stays out. Then very carefully take it out and test the brakes. They are supposed to revert back to standard 70/30 brakes.
