Alright guys, I think I REALLY screwed up.
Today was the first snow of the year and me, being an irresponsible teenager, wanted to do donuts in an unplowed parking lot. So I stuck my 96 k1500 into 4hi (electronic transfer case) and proceeded to slip and slide. I decided to explore the truck a little, pressed on the brake and shifted into the gear "3" and gunned it, still spinning, etc. Then my friends and I see smoke, (or steam, some vaporous liquid anyway) and I stop and switch back to drive.
Well as I am driving, I notice my 4hi light blinking and then it turns completely off. None of the lights were on for 4hi, lo or 2wd. I pulled into a different parking lot to experiment. I was just kind of pushing buttons. I shifted into neutral and pressed the 4wd buttons, and when they turned on they both turned on at once, not just one.
I turned to engine off, then back on and all three lights went on (like they should) but then all of them turned off. I checked to owner's manual and it just said to take it to a mechanic if this ever happens without saying why.
What could be wrong?
Is this a real serious problem?
What can I expect in manual labor costs?
Am I stupid? (this is a gimme answer.)
Thanks guys for any advice you can give me. I really wish I knew what was up/ what I did wrong so I don't do it again.

Ok, now I can switch between 4LO and 2WD. 4HI does not work. If I am in neutral and try to switch to 4HI (in both 2HI and 4LO), both 4wd buttons flash and it stays in the gear it was in. If I am going at a slow roll, I can still not change to 4HI.
