No I used the old hardware, the springs seemed pretty good so I just put new shoes on... maybe my problem. Maybe the drums need turned they were metal to metal on the back shoes. They didnt have alot of grooves or ridges in them though.

A hardware kit and turning the drums might make all the difference. The hardware might look fine but they stretch and lose their 'springyness' Drums overheat and warp especially after metal-on-metal contact. Sucks to have to tear it all back apart but you won't regret it. Make sure the parking brake is adjusted, too?
