I've got the same truck too ...just without the bowtie.

 

I notice most people on here have a Wheatley tune. What specs does he change or better yet what do you recommend I get him to change?

 

Do not try to change the gears yourself unless you really know what you are doing. If you get the spacers off by .001 of an inch you will trash the gears very quickly. I don't like the price either, but the shops cost this much incase they screw up, they can afford the parts to replace the gears.

 

Yes but its not rocket science. Ifyou follow the simple workshop manual it is not that hard. So you ask where do you get a workshop manual, ebay, net, and soem local parts stores. You actually have to have play in the rearend its just the patern in which the pinion gear meets the ring gear. Got a dial indicator?and the shims in the kit and some patients youare more than able to perform this task. Can't be scared your hole lifeabout working on something you never seen much less worked on. Thats how people learn.

 

But as I said if you screw up it is a $600 mistake if you have a 4 wheel drive. I don't like to pay for anything, but I would for this. But I do keep my trucks for 10-12 years so that may make a difference. If you have someone experienced to show you how to do it, then go for it. Otherwise, pay for it.

 

I have to agree with Smoke20. While I agree with buying a manual and doing stuff yourself, changing gears is not the same as changing spark plugs. You probably should find someone who has done it before to help you do it.

 

I've done gears in a 2 wheel drive vehicle, Im just afraid (I'll admit it) to the do the front axle. Seems like it can get screwed up easy. I wouldn't care if it was a solid axle, but its not.

 

Can you just find a wreaked truck with front and rear 4:10 gears and put them in or is there more to it then this? Dont know that much about gears.

 

Yes you can Hunt. It is no big deal, just expensive.
