Can I get away with "free mods"?
I have read the "free mods" post and I have a few questions before I try a few of them. First of all, if I do the "dumped exhaust mod" do you think it will be overwhelming if I travel the interstate (is it going to give me a headache)? Does it sound good good, or loud good? Second, I live in Pennsylvania. Our winters can get pretty bad sometimes, but we really don't have too much below zero weather. You think it would be wise to do the "air gap manifold" mod and/or the "throttle coolent bypass" mod? I have done similar mods to my 91' without a problem, but TBI is no where near as complex as the newer SFI.
I think you will be fine. On a side note I see you are planning on true duals. You will be much better off with single in dual out. I have true duals and my truck is a dog off the line. Fast as hell at high rpm though. If I had to do it again that is the route I would go.
K thanks Argon & smoke20. About the exhaust.....your prob right. I had the same problem running true duals on my 91'. I just figured the more powerful engine in my 99' wouldn't dog as much. What do you think about glasspack? What kind would be best (wouldn't sound like crap after a year)?
You'll be fine with the air gap and throttle body bypass in cold wheather... As far as the sound of the unbolted exhaust, I have had several comments about how good my truck sounds... It sounds awesome when i punch it at about 15 mph and hold it down for a while... people think the end of the world is near...
