Default Chevy 1500 Lacking power

I just bought a 1998 K1500 5.7 L. The engine seems to be running smoothly, but its def. lacking power. I removed the cat, and it helped but its still lacking. My next move is to replace the fuel filter, and check the plugs.

Any other suggestions?

Check fuel pressure. Are you getting any service codes? I recently had a 1998 that had a bad shift solenoid in the trans and it was lacking power to say the least! It set off a code though.

I changed the plugs, and I can notice the difference, but its still not where it should be. Fuel pressure is at 57 psi. From what I understand it should be between 60-66 psi......would three pounds make that much of a difference? There are no codes present

Also, there was a bit of oil on the threads of the plugs. The guy at autozone said its not that big of a deal as long as its just on the threads. I'm gonna check back in a few days and see if/where theres any oil on the new plugs.

Thanks for your help

3 lbs isn't enough to make a difference IMO. Others swear it has to be at least 60, but I have had numerous trucks that ran at 55-60 and they ran fine. Did you give the cap and rotor a look?

so if the shift soliniod in the trans is goin bad it can cause the same symptoms as my truck spits and sputters too at idle then when im driveingit will try to bog down but i put the gas down and it goes ok after that
how can you check the soleniod and how much does a typical one cost
my trucks a 94 4wd ext cab 1/2 ton
i am trying everything to get it to work
i replaced the wires and coil also replaced teh temp sensor thats close to the coolant inleton the top of engine
i will be replaceing the plugs soon
also i will be taking the cap of fto inspect the rotar as the cap looks new but i doubt the previous owner did a proper job as he should have replaced the rotar under there when he changed the cap

Thats my next move. I'm on a limited budget so I've only been able to do one thing at a time
