I just bought a 2004 Silverado step side extended cab. I have the 4.8l motor and auto transmission. How can I tell what transmission I have? I can see that the 4l60e transmission that you mentioned seems to have issues. I would like to know if my truck has this tranny... and if so if there is any more info on the subject.

This is a very clean and well maintained truck that I bought from a friend of mine. Mileage is at 81,300 and runs smooth. It is and always have been a daily driver... no towing or heavy loads.

Thanks for any info!

Default 2003 3500 silverado 6 litre.

I've had all 4 issues which I understand are typical to this year.
2003 3500 silverado 6 litre, 30K miles.

1) Instrument cluster failed, one gauge at a time.
2) Fuel Pump
3) Tail Gate latch
4) Front Bumper Droop / slippage

Other than that He's been an amazingly reliable truck. I'd buy another one tomorrow.

I have a 97 Silverado that has been somewhat of a lemon
since 30,000 mi. Fixing it is still cheaper than buying a new one,
and I'm getting used to it, and better at fixing it.
Now I have a new problem with not being able to get it out of park.
Some people say it's the brake light switch. Getting access to the
brake light sw is almost impossible. Any ideas? Do I have to take
the dash apart?

Angry

I'm sort of surprised that it appeared that no one mentioned the steering wheel mounted radio controls as well as the other switches on the steering wheel where the lights burn out...I seem to lose one every quarter or so...I wish there was an easy fix for those!

Causes or solutions from anyone?
Take the rubber seals off the bottom of the doors. sand off the rust put sealer along the inside lip of the door and then paint over the sealer and any bear metal. i did this right away because those stupid seals hold water and rust out the bottom off the doors.

2000 silverado ext cab: fuel pressure regulator, 3rd door handle, my check engine light is always on it says the evap. sensor, but it is fine

2003 SS: instrument cluster, rear door handle, same engine light as above, reduced engine power due to TBS pigtail, heater can only be shut off by fuse (even after new control panel), t case, fuel pump

Default Problems w/ 92 GMC 4X4

Had a 92 GMC 4X4 for seventeen years and just traded her in. It was a two tone, gray & black in color, and all the gray paint came off in sheets. Probably because we never once in 17 years washed or waxed her. The goats used to stand on her hood and wore the paint off there too. I hated those goats. Second problem was how uncomfortable the front 60/40 split bench seat was. I noticed this right after my wife spilled an entire gallon of white oil based house paint all over the seats and floor. Never did get used to that $15.00 seat cover. Third problem was the tailgate handle broke, most likely because my 14 year old daughter kept backing the truck into the stone foundation of the horse barn before she loaded up with hay. We changed the fluids once in a while and did the occasional brake job and bought her off brand tires. She always started, always ran and never let us down. Damn, I miss that truck!
