Default cutting off air intake tube silencer

Im thinkin about doing away with that weird plastic thing that sits on my fan shroud. cut it off and duct tape up the hole.
I have heard it will make a difference.

will it?

I blocked mine off, it made a little bit better throttle responce. I wouldn't use duct tape becouse that will get kinda hot and then you also have to remember the intake has sucksion, but it is your truck. but if the tape gets sucked it then it will go through your motor. On my '98 I used a spray paint can lid to cover the hole and then put the air silencer back on to lock it down and cosmetically finish it. But like I said it is your truck so do as youplease, but consider what it could do if it were to fail.

I've heard of guys using spray paint caps and RTV to seal it off...
