Default Daytime running lights

Ok so there is a sensor on the dash board for the drl's right? So when I start my 1999 silverado they are off and once the dash clears of all the warning lights they kick on and it seems like all of my displays dim as though I turned my headlights on at night. Is there a way to overide the 1999 silverado drl's without rewiring. Maybe like a special way to turn a switch so many times or push a button somewhere?

I think it's 4 times.... May be only 3, but I push mine 4 times so I end up back in the on position so my dome lighs still come on when I open the door. FYI, the system resets when you turn the truck off and back on so you will have to do it again. Additionally, if you say your dash lights dim is sounds like your headlights are turning on automatically. Either it's dark enough to make the lights come on, or the sensor may not work correctly. The drs's do not dim the dash lights.

if you put your parking brake on before you start your truck, your drl won't come on, and take it off after you start it

First of all the sensor is for the "automatic lights" not the Daytime Running Lights. In low light conditions the DRLs will turn off when the headlights turn on. Second of all there is no means of turning off the DRLs on a 99', I have tried. Only option would be to bypass the wiring or remove the bulbs. If you don't want the "automatic headlight" function, you have to replace the sensor with something like a LED bulb, something to provide resistance. I have done this with mine and it works fine. Headlights are still functional but no more "automatic" on/off.

jcbst12, how did you get access to the sensor? Do you have to remove the radio and access it from underneath or ??

TIA,

Gary
