ORIGINAL: jcbst12

What is comes down to on his VW is it needs a tune up. It has 100K on it with the original everything. He did tune it up and it ran much better. But while we are on the subject, when he floors it, sometimes it wants to stall, or it just hesitates real bad. He beats the hell outa the damn thing but I can't figure out what is happening that would cause this without an idiot light comming on. Any ideas?

Well if what your saying is true he needs to replace that timing belt ASAP cause they are interference engines. When I worked at the dealership there was a tech rebuilding an the top end of an engine almost EVERY day due to popped timing belts. If his timing belt stretches but doesn't snap it'll cause timing to get out of whack which could also account for the pinging. I'd do a full tune up as well.

Tune up completed, pinging stopped, runs fine until its at WOT. Pinging might have stopped due to single digit weather too. So yeah I could see it being the belt.
