dual 40 series
After thinking about for a while now, I have decided I'm going to put dual 40 series where the stock muffler is, and just turn them the other way, or a dual/dual 40 series. If I try to run dual mufflers, do i need to y pipe or h pipe? If so, where does that need to be? Does anybody agree with my idea?
Ihave a stock dual in/out setup, no Y pipe at all. I want a louder sound without putting much more than $250 or so into it, thats why I thought about the 40s turned sideways and welded in place of the stock muffler. If I do this, the X or H pipe goes before the mufflers, correct? How far before? How big does the X or H pipe need to be? I will probably make it myself. Thanks.
Well as for size of the X or H pipe im not sure but one thing i do know is that it would go before the mufflers. Im not sure that it needs to be huge but i also imagin it could be as big as needed to fit you truck. If your going to be putting them on the same side it should most likly be skinnier to allow the pipes to run side by side. Goodluck!
I'm thinking your gonna need a Y pipe because the other side has the fuel tank right? I don't know how much different our trucks are but you should have a Y pipe. One comes from each header past the tranny and the drivers side tube cuts across the middle to meet up with the passanger side and they weld to a flange.3" is normal for the 40 series. I've never heard of a setup like that, but sounds like it should work.
You guys are nuts, lol. You shouldn't need super high flow anything on the exhaust especially with true duals. The only time you need High Flow anything with exhaust is if you are running a highly modded engine, or forced induction. The exhaust systems on these trucks aren't as restrictive as you think. A little reduction would help though, yes.
After the cats, the entire system runs down the passenger side, side by side, about 6" or so in between each pipe, into the dual in/out muffler, out the muffler and then they bend to exit on each side of the hitch. No Y pipe right now. I don't necessarily want high flow, just loud, badass sound! Should I use X or H pipe? Acn I just cut and weld it into place after the cats?
just put the flows inplace of the stock, thats all you have to do haha No need to complicate things just slap them puppies on and you will definatly notice different sound with an increase in power
