engine swap
i am doing the same thing. ive been doing a lot of reaserch and depending on which road you go down things will be different. i want to go with a vortec which means a new computer, not to mention all the things on the motor like the intake and new wiring harness. if your just goin with the 350 from your year model you can use the same chip just have to change the pressure regulater, the throtlebody is the same. youll need a new intake but the MAP senssors are probly the same either way you will need a new shroud, have to change the engine mounts, transmition should work, radiator and other things. i could go into more detail but to save time ill give you my email if you have any other questions, i know i didn't mention everything. mr.crabs@***.net just email me and ill tell you more or try to help you.
Dan/Caleb,
If your interested in a 5.3L Vortec Flex fuel or non-FF engine and 4L60E trans with
extremely low miles, like less then 20. Drop me a PM.
These include full wiring harness + comp., alternator, starter, a/c comp, air intake system,
fan, entire belt assembly.
All that would be required from here is contacting howell.com, they will be able to reflash
the cpu (if required) and trim the harness to adapt to the model truck you have so the new
engine harness and the cab wiring will work together.
Then new engine mounts and possibly cross member or trans cross member.
Contact Novak for engine mounts.
I'm almost positive that the 4L60E will bolt up to the current transfer case you have but
that would need to be researched also.
It's possible that the new engine/trans will change the length of your drive shafts,
but you probably have enough room in the engine compartment to mount the engine
where that won't have to be altered.
It sounds like a lot but the price of these engines are cheaper then building one yourself
or getting one from places like advance adapters.
I'm putting one of these in my cj7.
Good luck.

I have the same problem yall do. I have a 2002 silverado 4.3. I have done much resarch and yall are forgetting two very important things. First you will have to change the front suspention the handle the weight of the v8 and still ride high and smooth. Secondly, your rearend is not geared right for a V8, so you will either need different gears, or a whole new rearend. I have not decided what to do with my truck yet, but I will probably just do all I can to it until I can afford another in a few years.
