Unhappy Fan Clutch

I have a 2003 Silverado V6. My fan clutch is bad. What is the trick to getting the old one off? How do I hold the water pump shaft and pulley in place to back off the clutch assembly?
Thanks, Joe

I got it off. I called Autozone and Bernard said he was sorry that he didnt tell me I would need a fan clutch puller kit. I went in, paid $55 deposit, and when I return the loner tool,I get my deposit back. I just finished pulling it off along with a chunk of skin from my nuckle. Im glad to know about loner tools at Autozone. And I will wear a pair of glove next time.

I use a 16" pipe wrench. Hit it with a hammer a few times and it should jar it loose.

Out of curiosity...how many new four letter words did you learn when you ripped your knuckles up? I seem to come up with quite a few when I bang my hands up...or bump my head.

I must admit I did yell out an ouch that could be heard down the street or from my neighbor's bed where they were sleeping. I have used plenty of four letter words in my day. But now I try not to even think it. I work in an Elementery school, I am active in my Baptist church, and I am a Dad of three little ones so I try daily to be a good example.

Boy...I sure understand what you're saying. I ride in a Motorcycle Ministry at a Baptist church in Tampa, and of course, it is imperative that you set an example of what the ministry represents. Then one day, my son tries to get me back into playing golf after a 14 year layoff of the game. All the words I forgot or trained myself NOT to say came back unwanted and without decision. I keep saying that the game was invented by the devil. It's fun, but boy o' boy...it sure tests your patience! Stubbing my toe has the same effect on me.
