Finally got my rear out and damn is it in better condition than i thought.

its a posi too just have to figure out the ratio and as soon as that gets figured out its going in my new truck

nice job its probably 3.73 if it came from a z71 package

 

You should have figured the ratio before pulling it. Counting the ring gear sucks lol

 

She sure did clean up good.

 

here an easier solution ... call your local dealer with the VIN and they can tell you what came in the truck ... or read the code of the differential , but a 1996 4x4 only came with a 10 bolt 3.42, I just replaced mine , a 12 bolt 3.42 will fit if you change the entire HOUSING

 

guys it tell you right in that picture the 11 is teeth on the pinion the 41 is teeth on the ring gear 41 div by 11 =3.73

 

good cuz i have the 3.73 in my new truck
