Never owned a truck before. I found a 89 Silverado 1500 short bed with 180k miles for under $1500.

What is there to look for in this model?

I searched and found
* AC issues
* Rear bulbs
* Hood release
* Intake mani gaskets

Is there anything specific to this model or things in general to look at that differ from a car?

Look for rust under the bedliner. Otherwise, if its in good running condition, you should be fine.

 

If you dont like rust look for it everywhere, specifically the cab corners and bottom of doors. Even if there is a little bit it will spread very quickly and if that will drive you crazy dont get it. Trust me. I made that mistake on mine. Now I have to shell out major $$$ to get it fixed.
