Exactly right.

Also Yankee, while your point may be valid, it's also not like the techs in performance shops are doing nothing but changing pumps all day long every day. I could see maybe one every day to every other day but certainly no more than the GM techs change...... especially given that they're so proned to crapping out! What the heck is GM's problem with fuel pumps anyway?! I've replaced my dad's 00 Sierra pump and my sister's 03 cavalier pump recently and there are chances mine is considering taking a dump here shortly........ And I'm only at a little over 42,000 miles.
I deal with multiple truck performance shops and my point was that when they change a pump - they lift the bed - nothing more, nothing less. And they do it frequently - as in multiples a week.

This doesn't have to be a he's right, he's wrong, I'm simply listing the way I've seen it done time after time and the way I've done it on mine twice now. IF you have the manpower to lift the bed and/or a cherry picker, it can be done in 30 minutes. It's not a matter of who does it more, I'm just saying it can be done quickly by removing the bed which was the original question posed in this thread.

yankee is right bed removal is only a good idea if you have the ability to remove it in the first place, otherwise dropping the tank would make more sense.

Hey Yankee or Argon can you tell me where the 8 bolts are roughly located under the bed of an 2001Sierra - thats the Silverado equivelent isnt it? My girlfriends truckdied in the middle of the street today and from what Ive researched it seems to be the fuel pump. Thank you.

There are four on each side along the frame...kind of hard to miss. You should see them once you're under there.
