Any help on whats easiest way to change it? Filled the tank up Wed after work and last night the pump went out. Brother works at chevrolet so I bought the whole kit package it was $270 from chevrolet dealer.

Im dreading it but looks like we will take the bed off and do it that way.

 

My opion only way. Everything right in front of you. What year? Clean grounds good.
Have you checked all, to know for sure it is pump?
Relay, fuse, Are you getting spark?

 

CHECK the RELAY!!!!!!!!!!! they have a bad habit of burning out

 

I changed the fuel pump in my 93 silverado as well. easyest way is to cut a hole useing grinder and zipcut discs. Be carefull and make a nice clean cut so you can return the piece after the pump replacement.I welded small hinges and clasp so i have a permanent way to get at pump. It works great and is easiest way.

First make sure that it is a fuel problem,and not a firing issue. Take the airbox off, pour gas on a rag,and stick it on the end of the intake tube. Then get someone to try to start the truck. Chevy's are notorious for a "whinning" fuel pump. Turn the key over once to see if you can hear it click on. If you do end up changing the pump,the best way is to remove the bed to do so. I'm not big on cutting holes in my vehicle,but that is an option if it doesn't bother you. Make sure that replace the "sock" on the end of the fuel pump. The last time my fuel pump went out it was right after I got some bad gas,and it clocked the filter,or sock on the end of the fuel pump. It might be a good idea to go ahead and completely clean out the gas tank while you are replacing the pump,just in case it had something to do with bad gas, being the fact that it went out shortly after filling up.

 

I have a removable bedliner, so cutting an access hole in the floor of the bed was a no brainer, approximately one foot from the front and one foot from the drivers side. I welded four tabs on the piece and simply sheet metal screwed it back on. Super painless and easy.

 

GM should have given us an access panel! You can also remove just the bolts from the drivers side and loosen the bolts on the passenger side and jack up the drivers side enough to get the pump out. If your like me, I don't always have extra people around to help lift a bed off. Doing it this way makes it a one person job. Don't forget the wiring and gas filler neck.

 

He took box off the top of engine we were getting a lil gas to begin with at that point but it quickly stopped. We unhooked the fuel line at the under body filter and was not getting as to that point. When we hit the tank with a hammer the truck would run enough to drive it around for about 5 sec. then it would go out again. im sure since brother works at chevrolet as a mechanic he would check everything. Hope this works.
