Default looking to buy new (to me) truck..

I'm looking a t buying an 03 Chev 2500HD. The seller says the that transfer case gasket needs to be replaced, and 1 half shaft.

The half-shaft is no big deal, im more worried about the transfer case. Should I be worried about it? If it is just a gasket, that's fine, but could it be more than just the gasket?

The truck is 5-6 hr drive a away to look at it. I don't wont to make the trip if i'm not coming back with a truck.

It's just what I'm looking for and I don't have time to shop around alot.

Anything specifically I should be looking for related to this, or anything else on the truck??

Thanks!

What engine does it have?

As for the gasket, that means its gonna be leaking fluid. Is the the gasket for the split in the transfer case, the shaft seal, or the seal on the back of the transmission where the transfer case hooks up at?

It's the diesel.... so the 6.6 duramax.

No idea where exactly its leaking. I would love to pick it up and drive it home, but don't want to take any chances either..... since its a long drive.

ya possibly.

Any way to tell by looking at it? Would the hole be large enough to see?

Id drive it it if it didn't make funny noises. Just have some tools and check the fluid level every 50 miles or so depending on how bad the leak is.
