performance motor

RE: performance motor
I am with the guys on this one. I would say get a built small block and save your money on the tranny and rear diff. I would have to say the 6.2L caddy motor is the way to go. Then get a forced induction system later. But my dream moter is an older one, it would be a built 427 with a roots blower. (I figure after balance a blueprint about 520 hp with a rev up to 9000-10000 RPMs) One hell of a screamer for an old 70's or older C20 short box 4x4 with the straight axle. My dream mud and fun truck!

RE: performance motor
Smoke you should just buy a Single Cab Short Bed chevy and drop a motor, trans, and rear end ect. in it and then i will haul. And when you break it you still have a truck to drive around until you fix it.

RE: performance motor
i would say, if you got the cash you go with a wetsleave 427, they make awesome power!!!! but they are much money!!! depending on how much power you wanna go with and your location, i would get in contact with cartek (www.cartek.net) they build sick engines over there, ive seen some with well ove 150 passes and still no problmes!!!

RE: performance motor
now you guys keep recomending the cadillac 400 blocks but that would require some modification to mount and to hold the weight. my friend has a 66 caddy with a 429 thats a heavy some b..... anywho something like a rigged up small block or a 502 would bolt right in. no matter what "performance" motor is put in the tranny needs to be built up for it and geared right for it all to work. it easy goes from a 3-5k motor to 8-10k in performance mods.

I also suggest finding a different truck/car to build up. There is literally, absolutely, and infatically no way possible to only spend $5,000 on that truck for it to be a built racing machine. If your looking for a speed demon, why don't you sell your truck and buy one of the newer SS Silverados? All wheel drive + 6.0litermotor = agood starting point. Wouldn't take much to make that scream.

Charger, the newer SS Silvys are only rear wheel. They only had the all wheel drive in the 03-04 years I think. But I know that it is only rear wheel drive now. Still a good starting platform.

RE: performance motor
I dated this girl a few years back who lived next to this contractor guy with a ton of money. He had the beautiful GMC dump, i think its like an 83 GMC. Its the pickup truck front end on the HD chassis. He keeps it in showroom condition as it is HIS truck that he drives to and from the construction sites. ANYWAYS, the engine was giving him problems (400ci) so instead of fixing it, he bought a HO 502. Then an Edlebrock EFI kit with a new fuel pump, headers, 3 inch duals and bigger radiator. He installed all thatand had the local speed shop program it for him. It was pushing around 700 hp. Well that wasn't good enough he put a two speed rear end in it from his old International. Then he dyno'ed it at 1000 ft/lbs at the rear wheels!

Then again you could always simply look into forced induction for your 5.3. Then supe up the tranny/rear diff. Your still looking at more than $5,000.
