Default Primer Pump, please help!!

I have2003, 2500HD, 4x4, 6.6L Duramax. The other day it broke down in the parking lot at the mall and I had to have it towed to the nearest Chev dealer. Well it took the dealer two days to diagnose the problem and they told me it was the "primer pump assembly." Here's where I need the help, I can't find any info about it online at all. No P/N, no nothing. I can't even find a website that sellsa primer pump, primer pump assembly, or any combination of the words. If anyone has ANY information on this please let me know. I want to replace it myself because I don't have $1000 to drop on the repair for the dealership. They said the cost of the part is $515. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

See if they have one with a backflip switch on the trailing arm. Should be worth 30-40 easy HP.

Ha just kidding, couldn't resist. I would try another dealer, It could be worth the cost of the tow just to make sure you aren't getting ripped. Just don't let the current dealer know what you are doing so they don't call ahead.

see if they can't show you what they are talking about. all diesels have some sort of a primer, it could be a lever, bulb type, possibly electric, couldent tell you which your truck has. i work on tractors and that kind of ****. anyway i cant see why that would break,I agree that it sounds like they want to rip you off.. maybe they meant something else. did you run out of fuel or did the truck all of a sudden stop wanting you to drive her? if you ran out of gas and they were re-priming the fuel system maybe they broke it and want you to pay..

This is the info that I have on the 6.6L Engine. I hope that this will lead you into the right direction. If you give me an email address I can send you a sketch of where this pressure pump is mounted on the engine.

Larry

Fuel System

The fuel system is of a direct injection fuel rail design. A high pressure pump mounted within the valley is gear driven directly from the camshaft. This pump provides a continuous and constant high pressure fuel supply to the fuel rails. The electronically controlled fuel injectors receive their fuel supply from these fuel rails. The fuel injection control utilizes a pilot injection method to reduce the combustion noise that is common in traditional diesel engines. The pilot injection method reduces noise by supplying a small amount of fuel to the cylinder just before the normal combustion timing.

Ok, got some new news from the mech today. He said that the name of the part is the "filter assembly" GMP/N 98017680. It sits on top of the fuel filter itself and includes the primer mechanism. He said the fuel wasn't getting through that and into the engine, which makes since. I know it is getting fuel up to the primer because when I loosened the vent screw and pushed the primer fuel came out on the first pump. Does anyone have any experience replacing this part on the particular truck? I'm not gonna pay them to do something I could do myself. I was just wondering of any special tools, or other things I would have to take off to get to the filter assy out. I haven't run it out of gas either, I was thinking another thing might be water in the tank. Thanks for the help.

Jake

Oh yeah, my email is jrogers13@ec.rr.comand about the blinker fluid- I can get some really cheap so if you wantsomejustsend methe money western union. I'll let you know how much and get it right out toya.

yeah that sounds more like it. im wondering what happend to make the primer assembly stop letting fuel passed. yeah i see water in our fuel filters all the time, some of our machines are worse than others but its not an unusual thing. if you have rubber hoses leading to the pump i use needle nose vice grips with something covering the jaws to pinch off the line so you wont end up with such a mess.

The only experience i have with these are on a cummins which they call a lift pump on them. There shouldnt be any special tools to change it. But make sure that after you get it changed you cycle the key a few times and get fuel back up to the injection pump before you start cranking the motor. I know they are different motors but you can ruin the injection pump on a cummins by running them out of fuel.
