Default Pushing Dash Dimmer Button

I just purchased a new 2011 Silverado extended cab LS, and I can't find the answer to this question in the manual.

The little round **** that you turn to adjust the brightness of the instrument panel or force the dome lights on also functions as a push button. If you push on the **** it stays in.... push again and it pops back out. I'm sure it is probably something stupid and obvious, but I can't figure out the function of this. ???

I think it may be the dome light override which makes it so the light doesnt come on when you open the doors

Correct it is the dome light on/off switch and also for the exterior lights and headlamps. If at night you are parked and wanna turn of the exterior lights while idling, push it in and out twice simultaneously for off and the same thing for back on.

No, it's not the dome lite override. To do that you push in the part of the switch just below the ****. Pushing the **** itself in or out has no effect on the dome lights that I can see.

I asked the dealer the same question and they said it does nothing but get the switch out of the way. I guess when it's popped out it could interfere. They probably got a good deal on pop out switches and used them.

Thanks, SlimJim. I'm glad to know I was not the only one scratching my head.

It should just turn on the lights in your car. If not then it prevents them from going on when you open your door.
