this is on a 64 chevy after rebuilding the carb the engine just races at startup. ive tried adjusting the idle and messing with the vacuum advance but nothing. any ideas?

 

What kind of carb/engine are you running?

 

its not my truck, im just doin the work. buts its a 250 with a 2bbl carb on it and i believe the engine is a 79 if that helps any.

 

What condition is the linkage in??? You might have a slight problem with the floats sticking or something... Time for a rebuild kit...

 

ive already rebuilt it. and rebuilt another one and it did the exact same thing.

 

YOU must be doin sumthing wrong then, are all the needles and adjustments set correctly?

yes. rebuilt 2.... exactly the way they came apart but with new parts ive never seen anything like this before after rebuilding a carb. ive done it many times so i dont see how i messed it up unless the float is bad but kits dont come with them anymore these days.

 

Have you chaecked the timing? Maybe there is a vac. leak...
