Speedometer Problems

Speedometer Problems
I have a 2003 GMC Sierra Z71. The speedometer has developed a mind of its own. While traveling down the highway at 75 MPH I noticed the speedometer increasing while the cruise control was on. I verified my speed via a GPS system. I checked the speedo again and it said I was doing 115 MPH. When I came to a stop the speedo still said i was doing 35 MPH. The dealer claims its an internal failure of the speedo. Anyone have any other ideas?

RE: Speedometer Problems
A friend of mind had problems with his speedometer on a 2000 Chevy 1500 Silverado. Evidently the electric speedometer motor on the gauge cluster wears out and causes it to act erratic. After much research for the repair he contacted Advanced Auto Electronics, Inc. (www.aaellc.com). He mailed his gauge cluster to Advance Auto Electronics after receiving another cluster from them. They also, upon request added transmission temperature gauges that are usually found on 2500 series trucks. It seems all trucks are prewired for this gauge option.

Argon: what does yes, brand new special policy mean? This is regarding cluster problems for GM trucks. My problem is the low fuel light comes on, when this happens the fuel gauge quits. Could it be a poor ground connection?

RE: Speedometer Problems
about two years ago, that happened to my '03 sierra...but then when i would turn it off, the speedometer would stick at the 30mph mark. but to say the least, it was all out of whack. i took it to the dealership and they said they were having a lot of problems with the speedometers for that year. i actually called gmc and told them my problem but that my warranty was up, so they got me the hook up and i had it done for like only $40 at a local dealership...got a brand new instrument cluster.
