Default Tow/Haul button fails to work

Hi all, back in here with a problem with the tow/haul button on the column shifter (2000 z71 4x4). Plain and simple....it does not work! Nothing happens, no light on the dash, no downshift of the tranny....nothing. I even would have expected a light to illuminate when you first start the truck, but nothing. Is there a separate fuse for this switch? Perhaps the button itself. But, even if the button was not working you'd think that the light would at least illuminate upon intial start-up, no? Hope you all can help. Thanks again.

Follow the wire that goes from the shifter button down to its source. I noticed that when I got my trailer brake control installed they cut the tow/haul wire. Not sure why. It's 2 white wires covered in an orange cover.

Default Have the same problem

For awhile now, my tow/haul switch has not worked either. If i drop the shifter down to "3", then hit the Tow/Haul switch, it works, then i shift it back to "D", and it works fine but same scenario putting the Tow/Haul off as well. Must be some kind of sensor or something thats not working. Let me know what ya find out, thanx, Jim

Default tow/haul

i had problems with mine too . a few times it would work then it didn't. then it quit working at all so i talked to my buddy at chevrolet and he said that over time the wire in the shifter handle gets hard and brittle and breaks . you have to replace the shifter handle, about 130.00 from chevrolet. i replaced mine and it works great. the orange sleeve is supposed to be a protector for wire movement when u shift but i dont think it works

What happens is the wire will get caught in the teeth when you put the shifter in any gear. Over time it will eventually cut the wires. Inside the orange insulation is two wires. Just reconnect and its like brand new.
