Default Trany or Transfer case

ok.. not sure if this has been talked about but... I got a slight grinding noise comeing from under the cab of my 1995 1500 4X4 silverado.. i only get it when i go from a stop to a go and sometimes when i put on the throttle.. i had a shop (gas station shop) look at it (why.. i'm not sure yet) but they said they can't do anything cause it's internal.. how can i do a quick check to see what it might be with out spending millions on it? It has fluid and does not leak.. i have not done a fluid change to see if there are any shaving in it.. that is on my list to do..

Make sure it's not trying to engauge 4-wheel drive on its own. Like the shifter for it might be hung up between nuetral and a gear or something. If it persists you might have to talk to a tech like Argon about it but I'd try draining the fluid out of it and replaceing it with Royal Purple. Not sure if those take Dexron III or gear fluid but either way I'd drain it good and replace it with whichever Royal Purple equivalent it calls for. That stuff works miracles for drivetrain problems and that's an exercised fact. I put that stuff in 2 trannies and 2 or 3 differentials. Can't beat it!

Check rear diff fluid, transmission fluid and transfer case fluid. Make sure your rear brakes aren't hanging up or shot either. Your e-brake work ok?

If you refill any fluids make sure it what the manufacturer calls for. Make sure the fluid isn't dark brown or black either.

Last thing I would do is jack the *** end up, put it in neutral and spin the drive shaft. You very well could just have a bad U-joint that has no grease left in it. Hence the grinding noise. Anyway, spin the shaft and listen. Check for play in the driveline.
