Default 1992 Chevy Silverado 4x4 trany interchange

I have a 1992 Chevy 4x4 Silverado 1500 the trany just stopped working after someone spliced some wires running to the tail lights. Something shorted out and melted some wiring. I had just driven it and parked it. When he was done splicing the new wires in I started it and every since the trany quit working. It was a quart low of trany fluid but was operating fine till then. I was convinced that it was something he did but have been told that it could't be anything electrical and that they are known to just go out like that. The only thing that don't work now are the backup lights. I have decided to get another one if this one is shot. Mine is the 700R will I be able to swap with a 350 or 400 with out allot of changes? And witch ones year to year will fit?
