Turning off the service engine light...
I replaced the alternator on a 1999 gmc sierra, had to remove the air intake hose to do the job. After replacing the alternator and putting the serpentine belt on I tried starting the truck with air intake hose off to make sure the belt was on correctly, but it shut off, anyway doing this twice made the service engine light come on.
My question is there a way to turn the light off without a code reader?

I ordered an obd2 scanner, I'm hoping this will solve the problem. < I know what the problem is just need to clear the the engine light if it is needed for another problem. Is this the right thing to do?
