I'm about to make my first new pickup truck purchase, and it's going to be the Ford F-150 with Ecoboost. Since I'd prefer the better mileage over maximum tow power, I want to go with the 3.31 non-limited slip axle, with the EcoBoost, 4x4, 6-speed automatic, and 5.5' box, all in the Platinum model. Here's my problem -- my local dealer says I can't get this pickup with a 3.31 non-limited slip axle. That I would need to get the 3.55 electronic locking axle for an additional $470.

Ford's website allows me to configure the Platinum F150 the way I want it, and another Ford dealer said I could do it. But my local dealer insists it is not possible. What do you think is going on?

 

No ideas, folks? Maybe the 3.55 axle is the better way to go and this dealer is just trying to help me avoid making a mistake? Or maybe they're trying to tack on extras that they can rationalize in order to make more $. No one has encountered this kind of thing before?

 

Print out the website configuration, take it to your local dealer, and watch their response. If and how they get to the bottom of the problem will let you know if you can work with them or if you need to find another dealer.
