Back in like 1998, i had my 1989 GMC Seirra Sportside 4X4. I needed an engine, so i decided to take it to my local dealer to have them put a 350 crate motor (Short Block). Anyways, i had called a local shop that sells short block engines and if i were to pick up the engine, it was approx $900.00. The dealer got my truck in the shop, and i think they gave me an estimate of like $2,500.00 installed. Well, the day i went to pick up the truck, the bill was like $3,000.00, and i'm just guessing with these prices. To make a long story shorter, i asked them why so much, then i looked at the bill and they had charged me $1,800.00 just for the motor, so i asked them where they got the engine, it was where i had called. So, i was pissed, i told them, i fully understand a dealer needs to make a profit, but approx $900.00 profit, ahhhhh NO !!!!!!! A couple hundred, yes, $900.00, again NO. They didnt want to do anything, so i demanded to see the service manager. He didnt really want to do anything either but i told them, as i was a regular customer, that i would turn away everyone i knew that went to this dealer including my parents,brother,friends, etc. Finally they decided to cut me a check for i believe it was about $600.00. I took the truck home, and the 350's back then, had a problem with noisy lifters, i start the engine up, and i could hear clatter,clatter, etc, so i took it back to them, and i had only put maybe 100 miles on it, and they told me, oh all the 350 do that, from factory. Well, how come my original engine never did that from day 1 then? Anyways, they agreed to pull that motor, and put in another 1 for FREE. Hmmmmm, that 1 was fine, no clattering. So dealers can be ok, but ya gotta stand up for what ya believe. Jim

 

Im beginning to see that the world is full of people with greedy hands man. I just pulled out of a Mortgage thru a lender who wanted about 1,500 more for closing costs than anyone else. I pulled it off for around 300 less than the lowest bidder by doing some of the foot work myself.
