98 sierra xcab 4x4 5.7 vortech. i bought a used motor with about 100k on it. it had good compression, the fluids looked good, it sounded good also. i am going to do a partial rebuild. new oil pump&pickup, main seals,valve gaskets, intake gasket,water pump,crank bearings maybe.
other small things to like thermostat, etc.. is there anything else that i should really consider to replace before dropping it. id like to have heads machined but idont have time.any feedback would be appreciated. thanks jedd

 

Is it the same kind motor going in the same kind of truck you might have to use the new motors ecm and tcm?

 

same year same motor, the only differance is the truck was a stepside
