Default Ground wire burning in to..

I have a 1980 Chevy 4x4 truck. When I try and start it up it keeps burning the ground wire in to. The ground wire I'm talking about is the one that goes from the frame to the engine block. Any help at all would be gr8.
Thanks

sounds to me like you don't have a good battery to engine block ground.Your ground cable from the battery should go directly from the batt. to the engine.than smaller wires are used to ground engine to frame and body. If it is on the body or the frame, when you try to start it the high amps that the starter draws is too much for the smaller gauge wire used to ground the frame to engine and therefore fries the cable.relocate your main ground cable or if it is on the engine already make sure the connections are clean and tight.
