1999 Silverado 4X4 Noise When Accelerating
I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado Z71. When I accelerate suddenly I hear a sound. I also tried on a downhill slope roll a little and hit the brakes making the truck nose down and I hear the noise. I can actually control the sound with multiple brake applications. I thought it might be suspension related but would like to get some input on what might cause this type of sound.
If I could describe it , seems to be coming from the rear and sounds like a low frequency sound like a muffled horn. Went to a shop today and he said he has heard the same exact sound and its the drive shaft problem and there is a kit to fix the problem. He also said a lot of people put up with this problem and no major damage is imminent. I'm scheduled for Monday and will post the result.
Turned out to be the front slip yoke on the differential. They have a kit for it that includes the slip yoke and u-joint. I let the shop do it for me and sound is gone and no play at all when i start to accelerate.
