Default 2007 Sierra issue

OK...last week I purchased a 2007 ext. cab Sierra from a dealer. It has the 5.3 Vortec. On the paper in regards to the specs and options it stated: E85 capable. It had about a quarter of a tank of fuel in it. On the way home, I filled it up with ethanol. A couple days later a message came on to tighten the gas cap. I did this. The next day the check engine light came on. Went through the owners manual and it said could be loose gas cap, could be wet electrical system, could be radical change of fuel. So, I go to the fuel section and find out this particular truck is NOT E85 capable. It doesn't have the yellow gas cap, nor does the VIN verify this. I put in about a half of tank of regular unleaded. I have a couple of questions: What should be the dealer's responsibility with this? Secondly, do I need to basically run it down to empty, then fill up...before the check engine light resets? Thanks.....

I'd take it to the dealership and raise hell. I'd also call the GM trouble line and see what they say about it. Make sure you tell them the dealership. They don't like misleading info and will hold the dealer avcountable. You'll have to raise a little hell to get results.

Dealers have given my parents trouble like that.

they actually gave us another car thats was the right one because we threatened with lawyers and calling GM.

GM does not like dealers who do that kind of stuff with their vehicles because it gives them a bad name. i suggest keep all of your paperwork to prove that they said it was an E85 compatible vehicle. and basically raise hell and they will do something eventually

Yeah, you should definitely pitch a fit with the dealership and have them fix EVERYTHING. Auto brands are pulling a tighter leash on the wheelers and dealers, so I'd expect they'll cave.
