Here is a thread DamnYankee explains it pretty well near the end I think.

Okay that shows 1 servo, but is that the only one that controls all tgripping between all the shifts from 1st, 2nd,3rd and 4th? Did that question make any sence?

Most people change the first to second only.

Ok what a vette servo is, and you can get them from Oregon Performance (where i got mine), is a 1-2 and 2-3 gear servo. These vette servos have around a 50% more apply area, so it will grab the gears better for firmer shifts. It also helps strengthen your tranny because it doesnt allow it to slip as much because of the increased area to grab gears. There is a second servo that is a 4th gear servo, but that is more expensive and doesnt come with vette servos usually. Its not something you will notice on the dyno, but you will notice it on the streets. For a performance truck a vette servo or a shift kit is something you should have if you stick with the 4L60. Also when you do get a tune, it allows it to make even better shifts, because they can adjust the shift pressure. It takes a little time to break in, and its not neck snapping shifts, but you can feel the 1-2 is def. firmer, and 2-3 is firmer also. Hope i sorta helped explain it.

That does help. Thanks! So it's worth the $15 or so even on a new 08?

I mean for 15 bucksit was def. worth it, im not to sure about you having an 08 though cause i dont know a whole lot about them, but to me it was worth it. Especially if you plan on tuning your truck later on, and help keep the life of you tranny.

Thanks Legacy that explains it a lot better for me. I mean everyone else explained it, but I was still was not comprehending... anyhow that explained it to were I did comprehend it.
So where can you buy the other servo for 4th and where does it install? I am interested especailly if you can notice it on the road. I found a guy here in Houston, Tx that hass offered to sell me a corvette servo for $10 with all the o-rings and paper gaskets? Has anyone heard of the paper gaskets? I do not recall reading anyhting about paper gaskets...Any infoappreciated.
