The thing that pisses me off about the emissions testing is it's by county. And it's completely different tests for different counties. Around Philly they do a true emissions test where they run the car on a dyno and have a wand in the exhaust pipe to measure what comes out. In Erie they do a sniffer test on the gas cap. Here in Pittsburgh they just plug the computer in and check for emissions codes. It is all BS!

You could also do what i did one year... buy the valve from advance, take it for inspection and the return the valve ( if they still take em back).. im lucky with the truck cause it is a 89 so its only a visual inspection so as long as the stuff is "there" it passes...

Now with the car being a 1998 i have to go with the computer hookup.. no problems so far (crosses fingers).. One thing that has helped me was to find a farmer joe blow out in BFE that has a small inspection shop in his garage/barn. Usually they don't really care about much as long as your important things like brakes, lights and tires are all good. personally, i think its worth it to take the 45 min ride into the country just to have my truck inspected. I do all my own repair/checks on my vehicles so it dont matter to me much if its a half @ssed inspection

Remember back in the day when you could just buy the stickers from a willing mechanic for $20 and case of beer?? lol

I did consider returning the valve, but I'm hoping it will make some kind of difference in my fuel milage, and maybe clean up the rpm fluctuations at little to no throttle. I just changed the valve yesterday, so I don't know if it will make any difference or not.

These motors have a higher compression than older ones. 9.5 to 1 I believe. Believe or not the EGR set up will actually send in a mixture that will cool down the cylinder temp during the fire of the compressed mixture. So running EGR is an advantage especially if the timing has been advanced from a tune.
