Fuel gauge misreading

Fuel gauge misreading
1993 GMC 2500. When I fill the fuel tank the gauge points to five o'clock. Unfortunately Full is at about two o'clock. I'm thinking empty is probably really aroung eleven o'clock.
Any ideas why this is and how I can fix it?
