ive heard lots of ways about these bowties. like etching primer, or sand it down then prime. but i just washed it thoroughly. then gave it 3 good solid coats of base primer. made sure it was stuck and not peeling back off. then washed it. and laid down 2 good coats of blue paint. after the paint dried i applied the first coat of clear coat. you have to apply it in even strokes so it lays down in the same thickness, this goes for the paint to. waited for that coat to dry. then hit it with one last coat of clear. if you dont apply that clear in even strokes in the same thickness it will turn milky or discolor on you.

3 coats of base primer

2 coats of blue

2 coats of clear coat.

i took a picture of it but i dont think it did much justice. ill post in a sec. i dont think youll see the difference till its on the truck.

im very happy with the results i put the bowtie next to the bodys paint for ****s and it turned out a perfect match looks like it was done at the same time as the rest of the body.

stopspazinout: a roll pan would really complete the look of your truck man. Just my 2 cents.

 

That is one sexy bowtie... nice job... I think that im going to do it to mine now just because yours looks so good.... however my truck is a metallic jet black.... should I go with that color or should I go something drastically different???

knoxy: i always liked the look of the SS bowties on a black truck. the jet black bowtie with a red edging i think that would look awesome. but i would do it to the body color.

Cvtsax: i got them on Ebay i couldnt find a brand name on them, but im sure yours would be different seeing as you have a 2000.

jcb: i like the look of rollpans and all. but i miss having a hitch and plan to put one on this truck. and was thinking about putting a chrome rear bumper on and dumping that ****ty old black one. but at the moment anything is possible.
