Default MAF sensor question

Ok, instead of paying 335.00 for the hi-performance MAF, Im leaning towards descreening mine. How would yall suggest going about doing this?

Main thing im concerned with, Ive heard of losing fuel mileage in doing so, any truth to this? Im not looking for more, I want it to stay right where its at.

Now, pros and cons over descreening and buying the MAF, what would everyone here suggest?

i used a flathead screwdriver and punched out around the outer ring, then grabbed the outer ring and just pulled it off... my mileage stayed right where it was before, just increased throttle response

flathead works well. very easy. just dont hit the sensor itself or you will be screwed.

The screen bends and tears very easily. You can kinda tear the screen apart around the outer edge of the MAF and once you get about half way around it, you should be able to wedge the screw driver behind it a TINY bit and pry it right out. It's really easy. Just go slow and steady.

Like they said, it won't hurt the economy of the truck, just gives it a tiny bit more power.
