New here, first Chevy truck
Bought my first Chevy Dec. 29th, it's an 04 Chevy Siverado ext cab 5.3L 140k for $7000. I'll have a few questions in the future, but here is my most important one.
Has anyone had a harsh 1-2 shift atlight throttle? It pauses for a sec then shifts hard into 2nd. At 1/4 to full throttle it acts fine. Could this just be that the cpu needs to be reset, like it adjusted to the previous owner and his driving style? Also would this be the 4L60 or 4L80 trans? How can I tell?
AlsoI'm wondering if a programmer was used on it, it just seems exceptionally fast. How can I tell? And will reseting the cpu erase this program?
Thanks, Luke

My truck had a similar problem with 2nd gear. It started at about 60K, and I didn't do anything about it. It got worse, to the point where if I was in 3rd at low rpm and mashed it to the floor it would try to shift down to 2nd but would just bang off the rev limiter undil I got off the pedal. At about 85KI took it to a family friend who owned a tranny shop and I needed a new one.
My point is, have a transmission guy you can trust drive it so he can see/hear/feel what it's doing, and advise you what the problem is.

yeah the same thing happens in mine. i have an 02 5.3 z71 ext cab with 154k and stilll running strong, however it does shift hard into second at little throttle. if its at half or more, its fine. i think i just develops over time. its been doing it since 130k, but hasnt gotten any worse, so i havent really messed with it.
however it does need a new yoke in the rear, its been a while since ive gotten a new one.
on a side note, welcome!

thanks for the info. Have any of you tried changing the fluid and filter? I think what ever this problem is, if it's caught early mabey the trans can be saved. If I figure it out I'll post it.
