RE: New to the neighborhood with a tbi problem
Actully I was asking because I also have a 96 vw passat vr6 and wondering if it would work the same way? And instead of a crome one, for now I run the hat upside down to get close to the same. I'm notready for crome yet.

Well you don't have to get chrome, its just that the air cleaner assemblies like that are built a little better. The stock air filter assembly has a drop to it. If you find the right aftermarket assembly without a drop it will increase the flow of the air into the thottle body. And if you find a long enough bolt for the lid, you can get a real tall K&N filter. Just a suggestion. Oh and as far as your VW goes, I don't know if it would have a screen or not. Technically you could do that but be real friggin careful you don't break anything on the MAF sensor. They are expensive as hell to replace.

Yea I'm here to tell you, anything on a vw is expensive! I went to put new break pads on it all the way around (4 wheel disc) and they were 45 for the back and 65 for the front! And good point on the air cleaner,I didn't think about that.
