Default Temp sensor for rear-view mirror

My temperature sensor (in the rear view mirror) stopped working after I had some clutch work done a year ago. My experience with the dealer was horrible, and I refuse to bring my truck to them again even though it is likely their fault.

Is there a sensor mounted in the hood or somewhere, and could they have inadvertently clipped/broke the wire that goes to the rear-view mirror? What should I look for?

Depending on what vehicle your driving. Most temp sensors are located behind the front bumper or behind the grill.
