Belts Squeeling on 24 Valve Cummins 5.9 when shutting down
As the title states, the Cummins 5.9 liter 24 valve engine in my 2001 Ram 2500 is kinda stumping me as I'm new to diesel engines (never owned one before and got alot to learn). The engine belt (i suppose) squeels when the ignition switch is turned off and the engine is shutting down. It does not happen as the engine is being started, or as the engine is running at any RPM.
I've heard that its normal for this to happen because the engine has a high compression ratio.... but i have no idea, thanks in advance for any help yall!

I'll deffinatly have to try the belt dressing, altho it may be in need of a new belt. The one thats on it seems to have quite a bit of wear on it and it appears to be cracking which could pose larger issues if not tended to quickly. Not sure how much replacing the belt will cost tho... hopefully not too much.

applied some belt dressing the other day and it quietened it down a considerable amount but it still has a little chirp to it. not enough to bother with, if it begins to get loud enough to be a problem again i'll just replace the belt.
